Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Community Health Worker (CHW) to support vaccination outreach and education efforts in San Diego’s vulnerable and medically underserved communities. This role is part-time and ideal for someone who is passionate about promoting health equity, building trust within diverse communities, and improving access to vital health services.
As a CHW, you will engage directly with community members, promote local vaccination events, and provide culturally appropriate education about vaccines. You’ll work at various community-based locations where people live, work, learn, play, and pray — helping to reduce barriers and increase awareness of immunization benefits.
Job Duties:
- Promote local vaccination clinics and events through community outreach and engagement.
- Assist with planning and executing health awareness and promotion activities in diverse settings
- Conduct outreach to community residents, organizations, businesses, and other partners to help advertise the Vaccination events.
- Provide culturally relevant and linguistically appropriate vaccine education to community members.
- Assist with event logistics at community vaccination sites (e.g., setup, check-in, coordination).
- Build trusted relationships with community members and serve as a liaison between the public and health service providers.
- Present to key stakeholders, community partners and residents the immunizations (Vaccinations) services that the County provides via presentations and one-on-one meetings
- Share up-to-date, information about immunizations and address vaccine hesitancy.
- Collect and report community feedback to inform program improvements.
- Collaborate with public health teams, faith-based organizations, schools, and community centers.
- Drive company vehicles to/from designated work sites
- Other tasks as assigned
Requirements:
- Must be very familiar with the San Diego community.
- Lived experience or strong cultural connection with the populations served.
- Must be Bilingual or multilingual skills are strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in health education, outreach, or community engagement is a plus.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and in diverse community settings.
- Casework or social work is strongly preferred.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed
- Minimum of 2 years of licensed driving
- Hold a current valid CA Driver’s License with acceptable driving record
